Huia

Huia was established in July 1991 as Huia Publishers (NZ) Ltd, specialising in Māori publishing. From the outset, the company has had a Māori focus - working with Māori writers, editors, illustrators and designers to produce publications in both English and Māori languages, and establishing Māori distribution networks.

Etuhi

The E tuhi! Get writing! Awards for Māori Writers were established by Huia Publishers in 1995 to identify and foster Māori writing talent in both the English and Māori languages.

Apirana Taylor

Apirana Taylor s a Māori poet from New Zealand. In his biographical note he has written he is of "Ngati Porou, Te Whānau a Apanui, Ngati Ruanui and Ngāti Pākeha" descent. Apirana Taylor is a writer, actor, storyteller and painter. He has published several books of poetry, short stories, plays and novels. He is one of the founders of the contemporary Māori theater.

 

Great Poet Hone Tuwhare

One of New Zealand's literary icons came to Dargaville on A Sentimental Journey. Travelling with the award winning poet playwright and short fiction writer on the Northland-wide Sentimental Journey tour will be Northland poets and musicians Glenn Colquhoun, Mahina Kaui and Lavinia Kingi.


REED PUBLISHING (NZ) LIMITED

Alfred Hamish Reed was just eleven years old when his parents decided to leave England and sail to New Zealand to begin a new life. They arrived on the Arawa in 1887 and settled in Whangarei, where the young Alfred completed his education.
